-
- The
inception of Fashion Ceramics began in 1970 as a hobby by
- Theresa
Colella and her late mother Rose Fasciana. What started in
- a
20 foot section of a room, has grown to 5400 square feet, housing
a
- vast
amount of greenware, bisque, paints, brushes, and ceramic supplies.
-
- Fashion
Ceramics has been located at 113 South Main St. in Pittston,
- Pennsylvania
from the very beginning, except for the disastrous fire
- in
1978, which destroyed the entire building. What was thought of
as
- the
"end of the line" proved to be just a "bump in
the road" towards
- a
larger and more efficient ceramic studio. The new ceramic shop
- would
expand to include 2 showrooms, a large classroom, 2 pouring
- rooms,
a fireproof firing room, and several storage rooms.
-
- As
the ceramic industry has taken many twists and turns, so has
- Fashion
Ceramics. At one time, Fashion Ceramics were distributors
- for
10 major mold and color companies and supplied most of the
- ceramic
shops in the Wyoming Valley. While many of the mold and
- color
companies have gone out of business, Fashion Ceramics continues
- to
be the largest supplier of greenware in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
-
- Theresa
credits her success in staying in business so long, mainly
- to
good service. Her many employees throughout the years have had
- great
teaching skills, and have done and continute to do excellent
art work.
- Her
current employees are Rose Sciandra, Bob Andrews,
- and
of course, her right hand man...her husband Frank.
-
- In
addition to good service, keeping up with the latest fashion
and trends
- is
a must. "We get new molds every month, so our merchandise
is very
- current,
said Theresa. Personalized pieces is our specialty and holidays
- are
a big favorite of our clientele, she adds.
-
- Fashion
Ceramics features two large store front windows that regularly
- feature
holiday displays of finished pieces. There are children's and
adult,
- morning,
afternoon, and evening classes, as well as educational seminars
- available
year-round. Many of her students have won 1st, 2nd, 3rd,
- and
best of show awards at local craft fairs for their ceramics.
